Why does the dial on my rolex spin?
I just got a submariner rolex for my 13 TH birthday .. And the blue part spins like a timer .. Is meant to do that but iv always wanted to know why that is ( and it's not a fake 11,000 from the rolex store )
$11,000? Nobody buys that for a 13 year old. That would be the price of a two-tone model 16613. The solid gold model cost about $23,000. But few watch collectors would buy one because the gold in the bracelet will stretch due to the weight of the watch. Gold is not a very good material for making a watch.
I own a Rolex Submariner model 16610. It would cost about $6000 new. It came with a green box, a passport wallet, a keyring fob that looks like an anchor, and manuals that explain the function of the rotating bezel.
The Bezel represents the "dive timer". All "dive timers" work the same (Rolex, Omega, Invicta, etc). Just turn the dial counter clockwise until the arrow lines up with the minuet hand. You can tell the time in minuets by looking at the point on the bezel where the minuet time points.
Somehow I think you have been deceived, if you do not have any manuals. Did you even know the model of the watch?
It is easy to spot a fake Rolex Submariner. Just turn the bezel. Does it rotate smooth and very quietly, with very fine steps. Almost all fakes emit a loud "click" when the dial is turned (they sound like a ratchet). Also if you shake the watch from side to side, you can hear and feel the winding mass scraping against the inside of the watch case. A real Rolex is perfectly balanced. You can not feel or hear the weight.
